DeLand to be featured in new film

Faith-based film written by lead singer of country group Sawyer Brown

DeLAND, Fla. – DeLand will play a small town in a new faith-based movie co-written by the lead singer of the country group "Sawyer Brown."

Frontman Mark Miller, a native of Apopka, anticipates filming will begin the first week of March.  Miller told The Daytona Beach News Journal, "The look of downtown (DeLand) is what drew us, I just saw the town, and we didn't really look at any others."

Miller says he picked the Volusia County city in December when he played a benefit concert for Stetson University's basketball team.

Titled "Ring the Bell," the film is about a big-city agent who has a religious conversion when he comes to a small town.

This is the fourth film to be shot in DeLand. Portions of "The Waterboy," "Days of Thunder"  and "The First Of May" also took place in the city.

About 80 percent of the new  film is expected to be shot in DeLand.  Producers hope to use some local actors.
