NBA player Amare Stoudemire's brother dies in car crash

Troopers say Hazell Stoudemire, 35, died at scene

LAKE WALES, Fla. – The older brother of NBA player and former Cypress Creek High school basketball star Amare Stoudemire died in a car crash in Polk County early Monday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Hazell Stoudemire, 35, was driving his 2007 Cadillac Escalade northbound on U.S. Highway 27 south of County Road 17A at around 1:45 a.m. Monday morning when he crashed into the back of a tractor trailer.

According to the incident report, Stoudemire had no passengers in his car. The semi truck driver was not hurt in the crash.

Stoudemire's injuries were fatal and he was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

The cause of the accident and if alcohol was involved is unknown at this time, as it is still under investigation, the report said.
