Man who killed himself, kids won't be buried next to sons

Officers buy plots next to Josh Powell's children

PUYALLUP, Wash. – CrimeStoppers of Tacoma-Pierce County in Washington state have bought the plots around the murdered sons of Josh Powell.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the move is an effort to keep Powell from being buried near the sons he killed. His family reportedly wanted him laid to rest in the same cemetery, overlooking his sons.

"We might now be able to keep Josh Powell from being buried in the cemetery, but we can keep him away from the boys, Pierce County detective Ed Troyer told the Times. "It's not fair for murder victims to have the murder suspect laid to rest next to them."

Investigators say Powell attacked his children with a hatchet before killing them and himself in a home explosion.

CrimeStoppers has asked the community to help cover the cost of the plots. According to the organization's website, the goal of purchasing the plots was to "create a memorial site for the boys."
