Fake cop tries to get in woman's car

DeLand police search for man

DeLAND, Fla. – DeLand police are looking for a man who tried to get into a woman's car while claiming to be an officer.

A Volusia County woman said the man pulled her over on Wednesday morning on State Road 44 near DeLand.

Brandon Green said she saw flashing lights behind her and pulled over after an unmarked vehicle started to follow her.

A man wearing plain clothes with no badge and no gun got out of the car and told her that she had a broken tail light.  Green said he then asked her to get out of her vehicle.

"He grabbed a hold and tried to jerk the door, and I didn't even hesitate," Green said. "I just turned on the car and threw it in drive."

Green sped away and flagged down an officer.

Police said they're looking for a white man with brown hair driving a black Toyota.

Green was not hurt in the incident.

Anyone with information about the man is urged to call police.
