LONGWOOD, Fla. – Seminole County deputies have charged a mother and her boyfriend in child abuse and child neglect of a 16-month-old after they say the child was seriously hurt but didn't get treatment until days later.

Deputies said David Espinosa, 23, and Kari Lindahl, 22, both of Longwood, told them the child fell in the bathtub Saturday, but they didn't bring the child in for care until Monday.

Investigators responded to South Seminole Hospital early Tuesday morning after receiving a report about an injured 16-month-old at the emergency room, according to a release.

Lindahl told doctors that the child fell in the bathtub on Saturday at approximately 10 a.m. while the child was in the care of Espinosa, her boyfriend. Deputies said she didn't bring the child to the hospital until 10 p.m. on Monday.

When asked why she didn't bring the child earlier, she told deputies she didn't see the all of the bruises, according to the release.

Deputies said the child was unresponsive and had severe bruising on his head, face, stomach, back and arms. Deputies said another injury on the child's finger was not from Saturday, but from an earlier time. It was determined the injuries were consistent with physical abuse.

Espinosa and Lindahl were booked into the John E. Polk Correctional Facility.  Espinosa was booked on a no bond status and Lindahl was booked with a $4,000 bond.

The child's current condition has not been released.
