Wife of man buried in yard charged with murder

Woman indicted on first-degree murder charge

BARTOW, Fla. – A Central Florida woman who authorities say buried her husband's body in their back yard has been formally charged with murder.
A Polk County grand jury on Wednesday indicted 64-year-old Barbara Scott on a count of first-degree murder.
Authorities say she shot 77-year-old Benny Scott in the back of the head and buried him in the herb garden of their Lake Alfred home.
A sheriff's report says Barbara Scott's daughter brought her to Lake Alfred police headquarters March 26. The daughter said Scott started telling people different stories in January about where Benny Scott was and why they couldn't contact them. Investigators found the body the next day.
Following a 1987 arrest in Oklahoma, Barbara Scott spent more than three years in prison for embezzlement.
