'The African Queen' to sail again after restoration

Restoration completed in time for centennial year

The African Queen

KEY LARGO, Fla. – The iconic vessel from John Huston's 1951 film "The African Queen" is now cruising Key Largo waters again.

The vessel, named for the classic Humphrey Bogart/Katharine Hepburn film,  recently underwent a major  $60,000 restoration. In addition to cosmetic work, the 100-year-old Queen was renewed mechanically, making it safe to carry passengers again.

Since 1983, the national historic site has been "homeported" at a dock at the Holiday Inn Key Largo.

Steven Bogart, the son of film star Humphrey Bogart attended the party April 12th returning it to service.

The African Queen will run daily two-hour canal cruises in Key Largo waters and dinner cruises on selected nights.  It is also available for charters for private events.
