Daytona Beach Pier to reopen with Joe's Crab Shack

Landmark has been closed for upgrades since October 2009

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The historic Daytona Beach Pier is set to reopen Tuesday morning after being closed for repairs and upgrades since October 2009.

One of the main features is a new restaurant, Joe's Crab Shack.

The pier is 90 years old, which is why it needed $10 million in renovations.

The historic casino building was transformed into the restaurant, which will have a soft opening on Tuesday.

The city says it'll do a grand opening around the 4th of July.

Joe's Crab Shack has 123 locations nationwide, but this will be the first one sitting above the ocean.

Business owners said they look forward to Joe's Crab Shack's opening.

"It's been a shame for the last few years to have nothing up on the pier and to be honest, the boardwalk area has been thriving despite it, so to have the addition like Joe's Crab Shack it's very great," said John Louizes, the owner of Zenos Boardwalk Sweet Shop.

Patrons can park in a new 40-space lot and pedicabs will also be available to bring beach-goers right up to Joe's Crab Shack.
