1 arrested in break-in at occupied home

Eldest sibling, 17, calls 911

ORANGE CITY, Fla. – Police have arrested a man in connection to a break-in at an Orange City home where a 17-year-old girl called authorities from inside the house during the break-in.

Alan Hallet, 20, was arrested in the home invasion with the teen's help. Police are still searching for another suspect, but haven't released any information.

The girl and her two younger brothers said they were terrified when burglars broke into their Orange City home. The siblings were home alone Tuesday when the ordeal started. The eldest sibling kept her cool, and called 911.

Girl: Hi, there is someone coming in my bedroom.

Dispatcher: Can you get in a room away from where they are trying to get in?

Girl: Yes, but they are in because I can hear my door breaking.

Dispatcher: They're in now?

Girl: Yes (crying).

Dispatcher: Alright listen, listen to me. Are you with your brothers?

Girl: Yes.

Dispatcher: OK.  Can you hide?

Girl: No, we have nowhere to go -- they're in. Oh, God.

Dispatcher: Are your brothers with you?

Girl: Yes.

Dispatcher: OK.  You need to stay strong for them.

Something apparently scared the burglars off, and the children were not injured.

Neighbors are calling the teen a hero.

"She was a very smart young lady and took care of it very quickly and very fast. So you gotta pat her on the back," said Tony Rosamond.
