Homeless family featured on '60 Minutes' now self-sufficient

Metzgers lived in truck in Sanford before getting help

SANFORD, Fla. – Ariel and Austin Metzger became the poster children of homeless kids everywhere after being featured in a "60 Minutes" special report that focused on Seminole County.

The show featured the siblings living in a truck in Sanford with their out-of-work father, but the family is now able to support themselves.

Eight months ago, the family joined Pathways to Home, a nonprofit dedicated to helping families receive services to meet their needs.

On Thursday, the Metzger family graduated from the program.

"The whole family had so many obstacles to overcome, but we pulled together a team to focus on what was important to the family in achieving self-sufficiency," said Debbra Groseclose, director of Pathways to Home.

Pathways to Home said it is planning a graduation celebration for the Metzgers in the near future.

There are about 3,000 homeless children in Seminole County.
