Volusia County deputy awarded for saving baby's life

DELTONA, Fla. – A Volusia County deputy was awarded a medal for rescuing a 1-year-old boy from a Deltona swimming pool and giving him CPR to save his life.

Deputy Cody Cochran, 22, was on the job for six months when he saved the life of a baby who had fallen into a swimming pool on May 25. Volusia County Sheriff Ben Johnson awarded Cochran with the agency's Medal of Merit for his "life-saving heroics," according to a release.

"It's not often in a career that someone can come home after a day's work and say: ‘Today, I saved a child's life,' " Johnson told Cochran. "We're very proud of you for a job well done."
