OCALA, Fla. – A 17-year-old Marion County boy and his 16-year-old sister were sentenced to life in prison Wednesday about two months after they were found guilty of first-degree murder in the death and dismemberment of another teen boy.
Kyle Hooper and his sister, Amber Wright, 16, were both found guilty of taking part in the murder of Wright's ex-boyfriend, 15-year-old Seath Jackson, who was beaten and shot to death in 2011.
Seath Jackson's mother, Sonia Jackson, scolded the teens on the stand, saying, "You helped take Seath's life, and I hope he haunts the rest of yours."
Hooper apologized for his actions at the hearing, but Judge David Eddy called the case, "the single most cold and calculated murder," he's ever seen in 15 years as a judge and, before that, as an attorney.
"I know it won't bring him back, but I'm sorry for what I've done," Hooper said.
Wright was sentenced to life in prison without parole also on Wednesday.
"Amber, I hope the guilt eats you up inside," Sonia Jackson said.
The mother of the two teens begged for mercy, apologizing to the Jackson family.
The siblings are the third and fourth people to receive life sentences for Jackson's murder. Michael Bargo, who prosecutors say is the one who shot Jackson to death, has not been tried yet.
