RNC protestors target Romney's treatment of family pet

'Dogs against Romney' group to protest in Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney's alleged decision to 'strap the family dog' to the car roof during a vacation road trip has sparked a "dog protest" in Tampa on Sunday

The story, reported in Time Magazine referred to "dog excrement found on the roof and windows of the Romney station wagon," as the incident.

"Romney strapped a dog carrier — with the family dog Seamus, an Irish Setter, in it — to the roof of the family station wagon for a twelve hour drive from Boston to Ontario, which the family apparently completed, despite Seamus's rather visceral protest, according to Time Magazine.

That story is the motivation for the so called "Dogs against Romney" protest to be staged Sunday at 3:45 p.m. at Lykes Gaslight Park at the corner of Kennedy and Tampa.

The group says it will play a song by New Wave group DEVO, actually written about the Romney road trip, called: "Don't Roof Rack Me, Bro! (Seamus Unleashed)."

Scott Crider, founder of the 70,000-plus member organization, said, "Mitt Romney's mistreatment of his Irish Setter Seamus landed him on two national animal abuse registries. It begs the question: should we have a president that isn't even qualified to adopt a pet?"

Following a press conference and the playing of the DEVO tune, dog owners will stage a demonstration of how to "humanely transport man's best friend: Inside the Car."

The group says it will be for the benefit of the presumptive GOP presidential nominee.
