Mike La Rosa named Mike Horner's replacement

Horner drops out District 42 race after name linked to prostitution

The candidate replacing former state representative Mike Horner is hitting the campaign trail on Monday.

The Republican party selected Michael La Rosa to replace Horner, who dropped out of the race on Monday after being connected to a prostitution scandal.

La Rosa was selected after a lengthy interview process because of his name recognition, fundraising abilities and because he can assemble a campaign team quickly, according to officials.

La Rosa is 30 years old, married with three kids, an alumnus of Celebration High School and University of Central Florida, where he studied Communications. La Rosa also owns his own real estate company.

Horner announced he wouldn't be seeking re-election for the District 42 seat after his named appeared on a list of clients that surfaced during a prostitution investigation. He hasn't been arrested or charged.

Horner's opponent, Democrat Eileen Game was considered be a longshot in the race until Horner bowed out.
