Local residents help provide needy with Thanksgiving dinner

Sedanos, Lake County churches help those in need, homeless

Central Floridians are teaming up to help those in need have a Thanksgiving dinner.

Sedano's Supermarkets and the City of Kissimmee provided Thanksgiving dinner for 100 families in need Monday afternoon.

The event is a first for the grocer, which says it aims to make it a tradition. Each family got a dinner worth about $75 dollars including a Butterball turkey and all the fixings--sweet potatoes, rice, gravy and more.

Kissimmee city officials chose the families based on need.

Lester Porter's family was one of the lucky groups to get a dinner, which Porter said would allow him to enjoy Thanksgiving with his family stress-free.

"I wish I could thank them by name, but we thank everyone who was a part of this event and made this happen to help so many," said Porter.

Two Lake County churches are also teaming up to provide free turkeys for needy families and a free dinner for the homeless.

Cathedral of Power Church along with ASHER'S Church will be giving away 400 free turkeys on November 19th and doing a free Thanksgiving dinner on Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Both events will take place at the Cathedral of Power Church on Hatteras Avenue in Clermont. The churches currently need volunteers to help serve and cleanup.
