Man, daughter nearly carjacked while waiting for school bus in Osceola County

Gunman fired shot at duo as car sped off, deputies say

POINCIANA, Fla. – A man and his 15-year-old daughter waiting for her school bus were nearly carjacked Friday morning in Osceola County, and the assailants also fired a shot at them, deputies said.

The attempted carjacking occurred around 5:35 a.m. near American Court and San Remo Road in Poinciana.

According to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, the man said he and his daughter were in their car when a gunman came up to their vehicle.  The gunman motioned for the man to get out of his car, but he sped off, deputies said.

"They were in their vehicle, two black males approached them at gunpoint and demanded they get out of the car," said Twis Lizasuain of the Osceola County Sheriff's Office.

A shot was fired at the car as it drove away, deputies said.

No one was injured in the incident.

Local 6 spoke to the father, who said he's grateful he and his daughter weren't hurt.

"My mind was running a hundred miles an hour," said the victim.

One of the culprits was described as in his early 20s, about 5 feet 7 inches tall with a thin build.  He was wearing a dark colored shirt and a black hat with letters.  He and another assailant were last seen in a dark colored vehicle, possibly a Ford Explorer.

Deputies said they have at least one person of interest but have not made any arrests in the case.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
