Weather system in tropics headed toward Florida

Rain chances at 70 percent in Orlando through Friday

ORLANDO, Fla.Hurricane season began just days ago, but a weather system in the tropics is already being tracked and it will likely affect Central Florida by the end of the week.

As of Tuesday morning, an area of storms located northeast of the Yucatan Peninsula has a 40 percent chance of becoming an organized storm.  Several computer models show the system moving toward Central Florida.

"That is still in the medium range," said Local 6 chief meteorologist Tom Sorrells.

The high temperature on Tuesday in Orlando will reach 86 degrees.  Overnight lows will be in the low 70s.

Rain chances stay at 70 percent in Central Florida through Friday.

"This will be our main weather-maker through the end of the week," said Local 6 meteorologist Julie Broughton, who added that the system will continue to bring rain to the Orlando area.
