Many waited in long lines Friday before the sun rose over Orlando to be among the first to get their hands on the new devices.
More than 100 people waited outside the Mall at Millenia for the doors to open to the Apple retail store, while many more roped around the buildings at various cellphone stores.
At the AT&T store along East Colonial Drive in Orlando, one man started camping out at 11:45 p.m. on Thursday.
The new phones from Apple support the new operating system, iOS 7, which the company says puts it in competition with the newer, more popular Android devices.
The new iPhones also offer new colors, including gray and champagne, which is more like a brushed gold.
The iPhone 5s is available starting at $199 with a two-year contract.
The iPhone 5c, meanwhile, is selling for $99 with a two-year contract, and it is essentially the 2013 model of the iPhone 5. The only real difference between the two phones is that the iPhone 5c comes in five colors and uses a plastic shell, not metal.
Meanwhile, Local 6 talked to a customer who waited in line on Friday to exchange his iPhone for an Android.
"They're more advanced. The screens are bigger," said Blaine McChesney. "Truthfully, I'm not the Apple geek that I always have to have that Apple."
