Good Samaritan shot while trying to stop man from beating woman, Orange County deputies say

ORLANDO, Fla. – A Good Samaritan was shot and beaten late Tuesday while trying to stop a man from attacking a woman in an Orange County parking lot, according to deputies.

The shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. at a strip mall near Alafaya Trail and Colonial Drive.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, about 100 street racers were in the parking lot when the Good Samaritan intervened in a fight involving a man, later identified by deputies as Conception Picart-Rivas, and woman.  Another man shot the Good Samaritan, and at least three others then started to beat him as he was on the ground, deputies said.

The Good Samaritan was taken to a hospital and will undergo surgery.  He was listed in stable condition.

Deputies said one of the culprits fled in a blue Chevrolet Tahoe while others left in a Honda Element.  The woman who being beaten also fled, deputies said.

The Tahoe and suspect Miguel Rivera were found at 1501 Selma St., and Picart-Rivas was found off Hiawassee Road.  They were both arrested in the beating of the Good Samaritan after he was shot.  They face aggravated battery charges and were taken to the Orange County Jail.

The woman was located in Osceola County.  She was not injured.

A search continues for the shooter.

No other details have been released.
