According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, Intini took off from Spring Hill in his single-seat ultralight and had engine trouble at 1,200 feet near the airport.  He tried to land at the airstrip, but he ended up putting the plane down in the fernery, deputies said.

Intini suffered a laceration on his neck and was taken to Florida Hospital DeLand as a precaution, deputies said.

The plane sustained some damage and was going to be put on a trailer and removed from the scene.

The FAA will investigate the cause of the crash.
