KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Kissimmee police arrested a man they say took video up a woman's skirt at Burlington Coat Factory by using a duffel bag and his cellphone.
Christopher Mendoza, 37, has been charged with video voyeurism in the Tuesday evening incident at the store on West Vine Street.
That woman, 19-year-old Karina Portillo, told only Local 6 that she had no idea.
"I just didn't feel anything, like absolutely anything," Portillo said.
She wouldn't have known either until she walked out of the store to find a man in handcuffs and police.
"I look this way and I see the guy getting put in handcuffs and I see a whole bunch of police and I'm just like, 'What's going on?'"
Police said surveillance cameras captured Mendoza shoving clothes into a duffel bag, closing it and placing his cellphone on the front edge of the bag.
As Mendoza approached the registers, he stands behind a woman in line and positions the bag with the cellphone between the woman's legs, according to the report.
When the victim moves closer in line with the registers, Mendoza walks away, collects his cell phone from the top of the bag, discards the bag and leaves the store, police said.
But, Portillo said she was told Mendoza had been following her around the store.
"And when the security guard noticed all that, that's when he was like, 'Hmm, this is weird,' so he went to the back and just stayed looking at the camera, and that's when he noticed that."
"I hope he learns from this experience, that he realizes that this is something that's disgusting and not right," said Portillo.
Portillo was just coming from a job interview. She said she feels violated and doesn't want to wear skirts again when alone.
"You just gotta be careful of your surroundings, because no matter where you go, a person can look perfectly normal but yet, not right in the head," said Portillo.
Officers arrested Mendoza and took him to Osceola County Jail, where he is being held on $10,000 bond. Mendoza is from Bronx, New York.
