Orlando police said Jarrick Cortez Pugh, 18, was being arrested early Wednesday after authorities received a call about a hit-and-run at 6401 Time Square Avenue.

According to Orlando police, callers said a white Nissan Maxima was crashing into two other cars in the parking lot of The Hamptons at Metrowest.  Officers said the vehicle was spotted in the condo complex and an investigation led them to 3250 Corona Village Way, where the driver and passenger were located.

Both complained of feeling sick, and Orlando Fire and Rescue treated them at the scene, said police, who added that both appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance.

Police learned that the duo also had active felony warrants for home invasion robbery, aggravated battery with a weapon, aggravated assault with a firearm and false imprisonment.

Orlando police said officers arrested the men and began to search them.  Pugh ran off, however, and threw himself over the third-floor balcony, police said.

Pugh was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he later died, police said.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting a death investigation. As standard procedure, the officers have been placed on paid administrative leave.
