$3,500 worth of diesel fuel stolen in Marion County, deputies say

Gas tanks stolen from 3 stations in Marion County

SILVER SPRINGS SHORES, Fla. – Three people are accused of stealing more than 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel from various Marion County gas stations, according to deputies.

Gas was siphoned from three stations in middle of the night this week in the Silver Springs Shores area of Marion County.

"It's crazy that somebody has that much time on their hands to come up with an idea to do something like that," said Toni Rebustillo, who works at one of the gas stations that was hit.

Rebustillo said the thieves made off with more than 300 gallons of diesel fuel, costing the store about $1,000.

"It is a major loss because we're out a lot of product, and it's going to probably take months before we can be reimbursed and that's business we're losing," Rebustillo said.

Investigators said Dan Gonzalez, Roilan Linares and Alondra Oliva were behind the operation.

Deputies said the trio stole from three gas stations this week by just driving up to the ports and letting an elaborate system do the rest.

The suspects' van had a cutout in the floor, where they would remove the cover for the diesel storage tank and use their siphoning system to pump diesel into the storage tanks in their van, according to deputies.

In each case surveillance cameras from the gas stations caught the suspect siphoning the fuel.

Investigators used that video to get a vehicle description and on Tuesday a deputy caught them as they were leaving a gas station, which they apparently had just hit.

"It's just sad that people have to go out, and rob and steal instead of getting a job," said Rebustillo.

Deputies arrested all three suspects on grand theft charges. Gonzalez and Linares remain at the Marion County Jail.

Oliva posted her $4,000 bail.

But now authorities want to her to face additional charges and they can't find her.

According to deputies, the three siphoned more than $3,500 worth of fuel.
