ORLANDO, Fla. – On the outside, it looks like an expensive frontload dryer with GE pedigree. On the inside, however, the radiator-like invention holds the key to a technology Michael Brown says will change the way we dry our clothes.
Brown says his hybrid electric system, currently installed in General Electric dryers, cuts kilowatt usage on a "use-by-use basis from 35 percent to upwards of 50 percent."
The Orlando engineer has been working on his design and prototypes for 10 years, recently earning Energy Star status.
"There are retailers who are looking for that cutting-edge technology, and we have it," Brown says.
While top retailers and manufacturers examine Brown's hybrid-electric design, consumers have a chance to buy the dryer online.
Brown is offering the dryer exclusively on his company website safematedryer.com.
The site describes the company's flagship Safemate HED2500XL Model Dryer™ as "our best model."
According to the website, the system "heats the air to dry your clothes by using a 2,500 watt heating system compared to many full-sized electric dryers that use a 5,400 watt electric heater coil. The difference is better than 50 percent less energy required when the Safemate heating system is energized."
"There's 36 different brands that are out there and our retrofit kits will retrofit every single one of them very quickly," he says.
