The National Hurricane Center recorded eight named storms in the Atlantic this year, six of them hurricanes. But none made landfall in Florida.

Though the season was quiet, the hurricane center said forecasters were still able to use new tools that could improve track and intensity predictions.

Meantime, the eastern North Pacific hurricane season was its busiest since 1992, with 20 named storms.
