ORLANDO, Fla. – Four people were arrested in a shooting that left a 15-year-old boy possibly paralyzed, Orange County deputies said on Friday.
Deputies said Katwan McDuffy, Tommy McDuffy, Gabriela Simmons and Reginald Haywood drove to an Orlando apartment complex to shoot Tychius Gaines because he had thrown eggs at their car.
Investigators said Katwon McDuffy is accused of shooting Tychius and Haywood, the owner of the car, is accused of getting everyone together to go after the teen.
"We should have just went home. I'm sorry. I apologize," said Haywood as deputies walked him from the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
The four suspects face attempted first-degree murder charges and were booked into Orange County Jail on Friday morning.
The shooting occurred Wednesday night at the Seminole Ridge apartment complex just off Silver Star Road after an argument between at least two others broke out and several shots were fired. Deputies had previously said Tychius was not the intended target.
"There was just an argument that took place and someone came out here and shot," Orange County sheriff's Lt. Mark Conner said. "He might have been in the wrong place at the wrong time."
Tychius was shot in the back and taken to a hospital in critical condition.
"We know that he was not able to move his arms or his feet," said Orange County sheriff's Lt. Mark Conner. "He had no feeling in his fingers. So at this time he's critical and possibly paralyzed."
Thursday morning, deputies said Tychius was stable and resting.
At least four bullet holes could be seen in the doorway of the building Tychius was in front of when he was shot.
The incident marks the third time in 10 days that a child has been shot in Orange County.
On Tuesday, a 4-year-old was shot while sleeping in bed during an apparent drive-by shooting in Pine Hills.
In late November, Jasada Barrette was injured in a drive-by shooting. She was shot in the back during a sleepover at an Apopka home.
