Texas man kills self after shooting Florida couple
MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A man is dead and his wife is in critical condition following a Christmas morning shooting at their Ocala home.
Authorities say the Venus, Texas, man suspected of shooting them fatally shot himself a few hours later as he fled from law enforcement in Florida's Panhandle.
The Ocala StarBanner reports 23-year-old Preston Daniel Pollard drove 16 hours from Texas to the home of Richard and Mary Lou Hutson.
Three children and an 18-year-old girl in the home were not injured. Authorities believe Pollard may have been an ex-boyfriend of the teen.
Marion County Sheriff's spokeswoman Lauren Lettelier says 36-year-old Richard Hutson died at the scene. His wife was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Authorities spotted him on Interstate 10. They say he shot himself while driving.
