Orlando police arrest man in Christmas Day kidnapping at Walgreens

Cops: Christmas card led to suspect's arrest

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando police thank fingerprints on a Christmas card for the arrest of a man they say kidnapped a woman and forced her to withdraw money from ATMs on Christmas Day.

Daniel Palomares, 23, was arrested in the kidnapping of the 22-year-old woman at the Walgreens located at the corner of Kirkman Road and Vineland Road.

The woman told police Palomares implied he had a weapon and forced her to drive away from the store, while he rummaged through her car for money.  He found some in her wallet and inside a Christmas card, which he threw into the woman's backseat, police said.

She told police Palomares had her drive to an apartment complex off of Orange Blossom Trail, where he did some type of drugs in front of her.

He then forced her to drive to a Bank of America and a Wells Fargo bank to withdraw money from the ATMs, according to the report.

After she withdrew the money from the Bank of America ATM, she said Palomares ran away.

Palomares was arrested December 31 after the security team at the Super Target near the Mall at Millenia says they saw him try to sneak a cart full of clothes, a television and a PlayStation 3 through the front doors without paying.

He was held at the Orange County Jail on theft charges until a fingerprint analysis came back, matching Palomares to the fingerprints taken from the woman's Christmas card.

Palomares was arrested on charges of kidnapping with intent to commit a felony and three counts of armed robbery.

A judge on Wednesday ruled that he Palmoares be held on no bond and that he cannot have contact with the victim and he's not allowed to return to Walgreens or Blossom Park Condos.

Palomares has a long criminal history, which includes six counts of third-degree grand theft and trafficking in stolen property last year in Brevard County, which classifies him as a violent offender in the Orange County Jail.
