The attack occurred at South Creek Middle School at 3801 Wetherbee Road.
The teacher was not seriously injured, and oo students were involved in the incident, deputies said.
According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, the man was upset that the teacher broke up with him, so he went to the school to confront her. The man hit the woman in the chin and took her wallet and driver's license as "insurance so she would return home," according to deputies.
The man then fled the campus and has not been located.
Officials said a student unlocked a door to let the man into the school, which was placed on lockdown for at least an hour.
"It was kind of scary because out of nowhere after the announcements your hear code-red lockdown," a student told Local 6. "It was something that just scared me."
"So much tragedy is going on. You don't know what to expect," a parent said.
