Man sought after creeping under stall in Dollar Tree bathroom, police say

Winter Garden police investigate incident

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. – Winter Garden police are investigating after a woman said she spotted a man creeping under a stall while she was inside of a store's restroom.

[LISTEN:  911 call released in case]

The incident was reported Tuesday afternoon at Dollar Tree on West Colonial Drive in Winter Garden.

The woman, Kim Allen, said it's not what happened but what could have happened is what she fears most.

"This is what I heard, like someone sneaking," Allen told Local 6.

Allen had stopped by the store to pick up crafts for her students. She walked to the restroom.

"There was nobody when I got in, I checked all the stalls," she said. "Then, I looked down and I saw a man's hairy knee like he was squatting down, I didn't see his head but I definitely saw his knee and then I started screaming."

Allen said she confronted him and he appeared unapologetic.

"That's not my worst fear getting videotaped using the restroom, it's what's he going to do? What's in his backpack? Was he there to rape me, choke me, kill me? Again, nobody could hear," she said.

The restroom sits in the back of the store. She fears he may have been hiding in a nearby storage room. Management at Dollar Tree reviewed surveillance video which showed the man in the store for about an hour. Allen hopes it helps catch the creeper.

"Please don't send your children to the bathroom. I know, even if you have a 10-year-old, you're like go to the bathroom, I'm shopping. Don't do it because it can happen to anybody," said Allen.

The man was described to be a light-skinned Hispanic/black man in his 20s with a "scruffy look." He was wearing a do-rag over braids and a backpack.

Winter Garden Police Department is working with Dollar Tree to retrieve surveillance video that could help identify the suspect. If caught, he could be charged with voyeurism.

Dollar Tree Corporate released a statement saying, "We take these types of reports very seriously. We are cooperating fully with local law enforcement in their investigation."
