Shots fired near UCF hours after crime awareness meeting

Students gather at Collegiate Village Inn Apartments to hear from UCF cops

ORLANDO, Fla. – Gunfire erupted at an apartment complex near the University of Central Florida just hours after police held a meeting addressing crime awareness.

The shooting happened late Thursday at the Campus Crossing Apartments on Red Ibis Lane.

According to deputies, two men got into an argument outside an apartment, then another man pulled a gun and opened fire.

Deputies said everyone involved in the argument ran off before investigators arrived.

There were no injuries reported in the shooting.

The shooting was one in a string of crimes, including an attempted rape near the UCF campus. The uptick in crime was discussed at a crime awareness meeting Thursday night at the at the Collegiate Village Inn Apartments.

Officers offered tips on how students can protect themselves, their property and break-ins.

Students who live around UCF say they've heard about all the crime that's happened in the past month.

Last month, a woman said a man tried to rape her after she left a St. Patrick's Day party.

Days later, a drive-by shooting left bullet holes in several cars.

Investigators are still looking for the man that exposed himself at a UCF parking garage.
