Grandstands come down at Tinker Field

Crews began tearing down grandstands at Tinker Field on Tuesday after officials voted to preserve the field, but not refurbish the stadium itself.

Tinker Field hasn't been used for a baseball game since the 90s, but concerts and other events have been held there since.

At one point, the city had planned to take down Tinker Field entirely, but after protest, they agreed to take down the grandstands and parts of the outfield to make room for Citrus Bowl expansion.

The infield dirt and the grass diamond will be preserved for historical purposes.

Tinker Field has seen all sorts of history in its nearly 100 years, including the Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1930s, to a speech given by Martin Luther King Jr. on the pitcher's mound in the 1960s.
