ORLANDO, Fla. – A high school teacher and head track coach arrested on accusations of having a months-long sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student bonded out of jail Friday night.
Ethan Hickey, 25, a chemistry teacher at Edgewater High School, has been charged with lewd and lascivious battery, lewd and lascivious molestation, sexual assault and child abuse.
Friday, after posting bond, he ran to an awaiting car outside of the Orange County jail with his face covered with a jacket.
Police said the relationship started four months ago and that Hickey and the victim had been together more than a dozen times.
Hickey was arrested after the victim handed over her cellphone, which had evidence of their relationship on it, to police, according to the report.
Hickey appeared in court on Friday morning where a judge set his bail to $25,000 and ordered him to stay away from the school until the investigation is complete.
Orange County Public Schools said Hickey is on relief of duty with pay as of April 30 pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
OCPS said that Hickey started in the district at Edgewater High School in August 2012 and that he is the head boys and girls Track coach.
A parent told Local 6 that Hickey was also a chemistry tutor.
The Edgewater High School principal notified parents of the teacher's arrest in a ConnectORANGE alert Friday.
Police are asking for any other possible victims to contact the Orlando Police Department Special Victims Unit.
