CLERMONT, Fla. – Crews from multiple agencies worked to put out a wildfire that began Saturday afternoon in south Lake County, officials said.
Clermont, Minneola, Montverde and Lake County firefighters, along with the Florida Forestry Service, battled the fire near the Heritage Hills subdivision and Hartwood Marsh Road.

Fire officials said the wildfire was believed to have been started by a downed power line.
It is unknown if the power line problem was due to lightning, officials said.
Florida Forestry Duty Officer Jon Graskewicz said about 40 acres were affected by the wildfire. Officials said heavy smoke hung in the south Clermont area for several hours.
The downed power line and fire were in a former sand mine area, according to Clermont Assistant Fire Chief Kathy Johnston.
Firefighters dug defensive firebreak lines to keep the flames contained. Fire officials said no home structures were involved or damaged.
Johnston said the fire was out by 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
