UCF Recreation and Wellness Center clears up shirt policy at gym

Officials say new T-shirts offered to students if clothing not appropriate

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Central Florida on Wednesday is clearing up what they call confusion at the Recreation and Wellness Center after controversy on shirts some male students are wearing to the gym.

Local 6 first reported on Tuesday that students were upset over being turned away for wearing "Y back" tank tops.

The UCF Recreation and Wellness Center tells Local 6 tank tops are allowed, but they can't expose more skin than usual because of the sweat that would get on the machines.

RWC officials sent a guide showing what they deem is appropriate at the gym and tell Local 6 no one has been kicked out of the gym for their clothing, but some members have been offered new T-shirts from the gym to wear instead.
