St.Cloud studio takes fitness to new heights

Aerial fitness offered for all experience levels

ST. CLOUD, Fla. – Are you looking to mix up your workout routine? Studio Zero G in St. Cloud may have the answer.

The fitness studio specializes in AntiGravity yoga and fitness.

The exercise routines are performed on silk hammocks that hang from the ceiling.

Studio owner Rob Gorham says it may look intimidating but they offer programs for all experience levels.

"This is something that you don't see at your typical gym so a lot of people come in and they're nervous. They don't think they can do it," Gorham says. "They think they need to be a professional gymnast or a professional dancer," he continues. "But the fact is these techniques are taught step by step where you learn the basics."

AntiGravity founder, Christopher Harrison, was at the studio recently to lead an AntiGravity AIRbarre class.  Harrison invented the AntiGravity concept and the hammock that bears his name.

The class featured fully sequenced aerial dance combinations timed with precise counts in the music. The routine was performed to "One Singular Sensation" from the Broadway show, "A Chorus Line."

Harrison has directed and choreographed aerial performances for both television and stage shows. He's taught AntiGravity fitness around the world.

"You can learn to do the stuff that real performers do and that my team does but this is accessible to everybody," he said.

Harrison says the techniques are good for increasing strength, flexibility, agility and balance. He also says hanging from the hammocks works to decompress your body and help with back pain.

"Every single anti-gravity class we have has zero compression conversions. We hang upside down from our hips. So if you have back pain this is the place for you to be."

Studio Zero G offers seven different programs that incorporate AntiGravity techniques, including yoga, fitness and strength.

Classes run Monday though Saturday and class packages start at $40.
