ORLANDO, Fla. – Waiting in the hospital with a child in pain can be very difficult for many, but a special unit at Nemours Children's Hospital that is improving emergency care efficiency, is now receiving a very special honor.
The Boo-Boo Care Team is an army of specially trained paramedics that treat lacerations, nail-bed injuries, and other minor boo boos. Their new approach to care delivery has earned them the "Innovation In Patient Care Award" from the Florida Hospital Association on Thursday.

Earl Fowler, the nurse manager at Nemours Hospital says, "The enhancement of our efficiency is seen in the fact that our providers, and our doctors were able to see more patients. So they're going out and seeing another two to three patients while the paramedics are there doing the closures."
Since the program began last summer, the total length of stay for patients has decreased by a full hour, while increasing patient satisfaction.
