Man dies in skydiving accident, Sebastian police say

Primary parachute sought in investigation

SEBASTIAN, Fla. – Sebastian police are investigating after a man died in a skydiving accident on Saturday.

Police said they were called to the Sebastian Airport at 11 a.m. Saturday for reports of a skydiver falling into a wooded area east of Roseland Road.

Wilfrid Hector, 71, of Sebastian, was found by officers and pronounced dead on scene, according to police.

Hector is described by police as an experienced skydiver and a retired United States Marine.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified and the investigation is ongoing.

The primary parachute was released at high altitude but has not been recovered, police said. Detectives are asking anyone who knows where the parachute is to contact the Sebastian Police Department, as the parachute is being considered as evidence.
