FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – New details are emerging about what happened to a man who died after going overboard on a Florida-based Royal Caribbean cruise.
Mike Winkleman, an attorney for the man's family, said Bernardo Elbaz fell over a balcony and did not jump.
Winkleman said Royal Caribbean claims Elbaz deliberately jumped overboard on Thursday after a domestic dispute. Winkleman, however, said Elbaz's husband told him that crew members on board the Oasis of the Seas started a dispute with the couple that ended in an altercation.
During that fight, the attorney claims, Elbaz fell over a balcony and ended up on a lifeboat before falling into the ocean.
Winkleman admitted that Elbaz was drunk at the time, but said he is looking into allegations that the crew served him too much alcohol and made sexual slurs toward the couple.
The FBI is looking into Elbaz's death.
Royal Caribbean has not responded to the attorney's claims.
