WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. – The girl who was charged with second-degree attempted homicide after police say she stabbed her ex-boyfriend at Winter Springs High School appeared in court on Wednesday.
Loida Lalinde, of Casselberry, was also arrested on charges of interference with school functions, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a weapon on school property.
Jeremiah Lugo, 16, was also arrested and faces charges of accessory after the fact of second-degree attempted homicide and tampering with evidence. Police said he tried to help Lalinde hide and destroy her cellphone.
According to the arrest report, Lalinde told officers her ex-boyfriend was threatening and harassing her. She said he sent her a text message on Saturday stating he was stronger than her and "he could kill in a matter of seconds." She said the new girl he is dating had guns.
Lalinde told officers she was upset about the threats and angry with the victim, adding she hated him and the only way to "relieve her of this anger was to put [the victim] in the hospital."
Winter Springs police say Lalinde brought the steak knife from hoome to school on Tuesday. She and her ex-boyfriend were "arguing about her supposedly being pregnant." They met in between classes and that's when she told officers it was the "perfect chance" and stabbed him in the back. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to the police.
Lugo was released to home detention and cannot have contact with Lalinde, the victim or witnesses. His family tells News 6 he is a good kid who did not know what was going on and was trying to help.
Lalinde will remain in custody at the juvenile detention center. She will have a detention review on Dec. 28. Her family says they have never had issues with their daughter and the law will figure out what happened.
Both Lalinde and Lugo will be arraigned on Jan. 4.
