DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Not even the singing Santa Claus could keep a couple from stealing a gold diamond pair of earrings on Tuesday afternoon.
"That was going to be a nice Christmas present for somebody under the Christmas tree but the Grinch stole Christmas," said Caroline DeLannoy, President of Arlequin Antiques & Art Store.
DeLannoy said the couple was only in the store for a few minutes.
"His demeanor was very charismatic, came in, made conversation," she said.
While DeLannoy helped a customer outside, she said the man took advantage inside.
"He proceeded to go up to the jewelry cabinet, take something out of his pocket, break the lock and was able to extract the jewelry from the cabinet," said DeLannoy.
The diamond earrings cost over $2,000 but all DeLannoy has now is an empty box. She hopes surveillance picture and reward money will help catch the thieves.
"I was just thinking during holiday season it would help somebody out a little bit and at the same time, help me out," she said.
DeLannoy said she also has a few words for the couple who stole from her family owned business.
"I would like to say, you're not going to ruin my Christmas but I'm going to ruin yours," she said.
