13-year-old arrested for stealing school bus, Lake school officials say

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A 13-year-old was arrested on Thursday afternoon after Lake County school officials say the teen stole a school bus and drove away.

Officials said the incident occurred at 3 p.m. Thursday, while the bus was being prepared for a trip from Leesburg High School to Mount Dora for a soccer game.

The bus driver parked in the lot and went to the bathroom, and when they returned, the bus was gone, according to officials.

The route manager used the GPS and told law enforcement where to find the bus, which had broken glass and a scrape on the fender of the bus.

The teen, who was not identified, was arrested.

No other details were immediately available.
