Victim caught in crossfire of Orlando police shootout says officer shot him

ORLANDO, Fla. – The man shot while in the crossfire of a police shootout is describing the moments leading up to his injury.

Darren Nzoungou said that he was taking his dog for a walk, when he noticed the commotion. Nzoungou is adamant that he was shot by an Orlando police officer.

Nzoungou said that he saw an Orlando police officer pull out his gun, and point it in his direction. He said the suspect was also running toward him, putting him directly in the line of fire of the officer's gun.

"He was pointing at the suspect, misfired the first time. Second fire, hit my back and I was on the ground for five minutes. I was in pain," said Nzoungou.

Orlando police said again on Thursday that they believe the bullet came from the suspect's gun. The suspect, Daniel Robles, has also admitted to firing his gun, but it's unclear if he only admitted to firing at the officer, not Nzoungou.

"I believe that Orlando wants to switch up the version of the story saying that the suspect shot me, but I didn't see any weapons on him."

Nzoungou said he is thankful to be alive and back home with his family.

"I was in pain. I was traumatized," said Nzoungou.

Nzoungou has hired Morgan & Morgan to represent him while exploring his legal options.
