Walmart recalls electric water kettles after 80 reported incidents

Discount retailer Walmart said Tuesday it is recalling its exclusively sold Rival brand electric water kettles.

The kettles, with either model number WK8283CU or WK8283CUY, can be returned to any Walmart store for a full refund, the company said.

The retailer is urging anyone with a Rival brand electric water kettle to immediately stop using it.

Eighty reported incidents have been received by the company, seven of which were reported as burns.

"The heating element can fail and rupture, posing burn and shock hazards to the user," Walmart said.

The product is made in China and about 1.2 million units were sold from March 2011 through October 2015.
