Daytona Beach vacant hotel demolished for One Daytona development

Building to host 2 new hotels, retail shops, restaurants

The International Speedway Corporation demolished a vacant hotel to make room for a year-round destination called One Daytona on Tuesday.

Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood had the honors of tearing down the Daytona Beach Extended Stay Hotel, which he says was once known for crime activity.

"This project goes to show you that the greatest crime fighter is economic development," Chitwood said.

The building will now be a part of a complete lifestyle property that will include two hotels, residential areas, retail shops and restaurants.

ISC tells News 6 One Daytona will be completed and opened in fall 2017.
