VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A man accidentally shot himself in the leg while threatening his live-in girlfriend, who was driving on Interstate 4 in Volusia County, deputies said.

The shooting was reported Monday night in a car on I-4 east near the St. Johns River Bridge.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, a woman was driving near mile marker 105 when she got into an argument with her boyfriend, Brian Zook.

Deputies said the woman claimed that Zook began choking her, grabbed a gun and threatened to kill her.

Zook then accidentally shot himself in the leg, deputies said.

The woman pulled over near a Florida Highway Patrol trooper, and Zook requested an ambulance, officials said. He suffered minor injuries, according to deputies.

Zook denied assaulting the woman, deputies said.

Zook faces charges of aggravated assault with a firearm, felony domestic battery by strangulation and possession of a firearm while intoxicated.
