DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Daytona Beach Police Department said they were called at 12:52 a.m. Saturday to a convenience store MLK Grocery at 518 S. Martin Luther King Blvd. in Daytona Beach due to a shooting.
Police said that when they arrived at the store they found Bobby E. Willis III, 30, of Daytona Beach, lying in front of the doors to the store, dead with multiple gunshot wounds.
The suspect, Ricky Kelly, 32, of 1000 Alice Drive in Daytona Beach, was also injured after Willis returned fire after he had been shot and was lying on the ground. Kelly fled the scene on foot but was picked up by a private vehicle and taking to Halifax Hospital, authorities said.
The witnesses said that both men were inside the store near the cashier when an argument broke out; after that Kelly left the store. Kelly went into surgery with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Authorities said that Kelly will be charged with first-degree murder.
