MIAMI – A 32-year-old woman fell off the Carnival Ecstasy cruise ship in the Bahamas early Wednesday, prompting the Coast Guard to search the ocean for her.
Rina Patel, 32, from Interlaken, New York, went overboard around 2:30 a.m., about 27 miles southwest of Freeport, the Coast Guard said.
The U.S. Coast Guard says it has dispatched aircraft and two ships to an area about 27 miles southwest of the island of Grand Bahama to look for the 32-year-old woman. A Coast Guard statement says the woman was seen falling before dawn Wednesday from the 11th deck of the Carnival Ecstasy.
Authorities said the woman, who was wearing a white dress, has not been released.
The Carnival Ectsasy's last port of call was Tuesday in Nassau. It's next port of call is scheduled to be in Charleston, South Carolina, on Thursday.
