7-Eleven admits to reports of 'tainted gas' at 2 Orlando locations

Customers say bad gas caused car problems

ORLANDO, Fla. – Several customers of an Orlando 7-Eleven claim their vehicles had to be repaired after they filled their tanks with tainted gasoline.

The owner of the 7-Eleven at 3400 S. Conway Road said the problem happened in the beginning of September, when a couple dozen customers complained.

The company released this statement to News 6 on Tuesday:

"On Tuesday, September 6, 7-Eleven received reports of tainted gas and took immediate action to stop sales of gasoline at two Orlando-area stores. 7-Eleven removed and disposed of tainted gasoline and re-opened gas operations at both locations after corrections were completed. Customers who believe their car was impacted may call 1-800-255-0711.”

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services said it conducted an inspection of the fuel pumps on Wednesday and found no violations.

One woman tells News 6 that she filled her gas tank on Sept. 6 and soon after had mechanical problems.

A mechanic said common signs of tainted fuel would be a vehicle suddenly stalling out and having little to no power. The problem could be fixed by replacing the fuel pump or the fuel injector.

Another customer told News 6 that he filled his gas tank on September 16, 2016, after the state's inspection and suspects his vehicle was also affected by tainted gasoline.

7-Eleven asks any customers who think their vehicle was affected by the gasoline to call 1-800-255-0711.
