2 men in surgical masks, tracksuits burglarize Orange City jewelry store

Video shows duo smashing window, display cases

ORANGE CITY, Fla. – A closed sign and a boarded-up window cover the Orange City Jewelers store after police responded to a burglary alarm at 5:30 a.m.Tuesday .

"It was just glass everywhere," said Alex Doyle, a sales associate at the store.

Employees spent the day cleaning up after they said it took five minutes for the crooks to break in and steal items from display cases.

"We're out a day. We're out of a lot of equipment and displays," said Doyle.

Surveillance video showed the two men decked out in surgical masks and tracksuits as they smashed through the window to get inside.

"They shattered four different cases," said Doyle.

The crooks got away with costume jewelry and stainless steel pieces while the alarm was going off.

"They really didn't make out very well. The property damage is worth more than anything they took," said Doyle.

It's damage that the store said will cost thousands of dollars to replace.

"Basically, everything that was in the cases are riddled with glass, so we're having to pull stuff out. Some pieces were scratched or damaged," said Doyle.

The store hopes the surveillance video will help catch the brazen thieves.

"We put a lot of work into maintaining our relationship with the community and keeping a nice store. Then something like this happens, and it's not even worth it." she said.

No one was hurt since the store was closed when it happened.

If you know anything about the burglary,  call Orange City Police.
